Discussion Questions for Ferris Bueller's Day Off
1. An anti-hero is defined as the central character in a story, movie, or drama, who lacks conventional heroic attributes. Is Ferris Bueller an anti-hero? If so, who is the hero of the movie?
2. Who is the villain? Who is Ferris's ultimate enemy?
3. What message about adults and teenagers does the film portray?
I think that the main character of story (ferris) is an anti-hero because he doesn’t do things to benefits other people. His actions will be considering heroics but his intentions were not heroics. He was often thought in himself and his happiness and he did not consider the long-term consequences of his decisions. He is always lying and he is so manipulating and that is no well. However he helps to his best friend Cameron to be brave and rise from his depression and that is so well.
ResponderEliminarI wonder if there are villains in the story… The first “villain” that I met was Ferris’s sister. She hates him and she was tried to destroy any idea that he has it. The second “villain” and enemy of Ferris was the director of his school because he wants to take evidence to chase out of the school. But they are no villains for me because they want to show the truth to everybody.
Maybe the message is to be careful when we take decisions. We must think in the consequences. We must to be more sensible and think in the people who are around us. We should to know that every action has a reaction and that reaction is no always good. And the message for adults maybe is: don’t be innocent.
I really enjoy the movie and I will recommend to other people. Good night.
Yes, same i think the villain is Ferris because he always want to go for parties, enjoy the younger life but he does not think about his future, what does he want to study? what are his dreams? and what else.
EliminarThe hero or the person is trying to be a hero is the director because he is trying to catch the Ferris' lies, the another person that is trying to be a hero is Ferris' sister but she in the final of the movie helps Ferris for the director does not catch him and he does not pass another year in the highschool.
and i'm agreeing with you about the message, and about the adults is don't be innocent and not always believe in their sons and daughters and saying their sons and daughters they need to study or find other ways to resolve their lifes, and for the younger people is: don't think you can always enjoy the life with parties, games etc. you need to think about your future and effort now for you can have a good future.
I agree with those who say that Ferris is anti-hero, because, although he is the protagonist of the movie, all the things what he does are not the best for the majority, on the contrary, he uses other people for his own benefit. Also, for his purposes, Ferris uses lies and manipulation arguing that these are not malicious ways, according with the famous saying “The ends justifies the means”. Finally, most of the time Bueller gets what he wants by luck and not by his abilities.
EliminarAs Daniel said, I also think that Jenny (Ferris’ sister) is the hero of the movie, because she wants to put in evidence the Ferris’ tricks to avoid people from being deceived, but she fails on her intentions. And at the end of the movie, she “saves” Ferris from being punished, although she had said she hated him.
The villain, as Vanessa said, could be the director of the school, because his main purpose is to demonstrate that Ferris is a liar and have to be punished for that. And, like the typical villain in a movie, he is defeated and he ends sad and humiliated.
And I think the film shows that there are many parents who do not pay attention to their children for being focused in their own business and also that teenagers do not always think about the consequences of their decisions. But for me, the message is to learn to enjoy life without hurting anyone, doing the things that we love the most and taking care of our family and friends, because life is too short and we do not know when it ends.
Good message ...... Tiburonsita!!!
EliminarWell I am agree with that Ferris' parents were so innocent and because of that Ferris manipulate them so easily. In themovie Ferris do not face the consequences of his acts but if you act like that in your life you are going to have problems one day. you can not escape all your life of your responsabilities.
EliminarI agree with you guys Ferri is anti-hero. He is selfish, only think in his own benefit. He is clever, but does not use this intelligent in the right way although he only did "funny" things and did not hurt anybody with this, he broke the rules when he lied to his parents and the director of the school because his responsability like a teenager is go to study and take the free time to have fun.
ResponderEliminarI think that Jenny is the Ferri´s hero because at the end she saved him from punishment but at the same time she did not allow that he learned the lession and took the consequences of is misconduct.
For me the villian is not the director, he was doing his job - extreme by the way- because he wanted to discover the true. In this movie does not exist a villian.
Like Sofia said, the great teaching is for the parents. They need to have a better relationship with their children. They should know about their hobbies, their fears, not only about the school problems when the teacher calls them.
I agree with you about his sister, she was the hero in the movie, she save him of a pinishment and make him suffer a little at the end jejejeje...
EliminarWe all thought the same. Ferris is the anti-hero, because the results of his actions were always negative, it was based on mischief, diversion and deception; this was not productive for his mind and his future life.
ResponderEliminarFerris became in a negative leader as he had a great power of conviction in negative form with his parents and his classmates.
A popular proverb says “firs falls a liar than a lame” this did not happen with Ferris, he was the only liar than was not discovered in the movies, even though the director of the school tried to expose him.
The main villain was Ed Rooney (the director of the school) who never believed his lies, like his sister (Janie) was tired that everyone believed the Ferri’s actions.
I tell to adults that should never have total faith in someone, I think that doubt is a form of reasoning and uncover the truth. The message for teenagers is that we can enjoy the life with responsibility, without affecting others, for example Ferris had a great ability to never be surprised in his lies, so if he use his cunning, his imagination, his intelligence and his ability to conviction for the study, for work or for the benefit of other he could be a great person, as a role model person.
Ferris Bueller’s day off is such a fun and joyful movie. Evidently Ferris is an anti-hero because is not an admirable person. He is dishonest, irresponsible, and he used people, even his friends. Ferris is the lying and manipulating his way through every situation. His best Friend Cameron had so little faith in Ferris's loyalty that when Ferris disappears at the parade, Cameron suggests Ferris may have returned to school just for the fun of leaving his friends.
ResponderEliminarBesides I can say some good attitude about Ferris. He clearly knows what he wants, and he’s got a strategy to get whatever he wanted and not letting anyone stand in his way today. He does not wait for graduation to travel and explore. He does not wait for the weekend to hang out with Sloane and Cameron. He does not wait until his 20’s to start living. He lives today. Right now.
The enemy principal is Rooney because Ferris was always defying Rooney’s authority. And Rooney wish to confirm that Ferris was not ill and keep him for one year more.
The hero of the movie is Cameron. He is generous, honest, responsible and helpful. The most of the film he is not a hero, he is a victim. But he finally becomes a hero. He chooses to stop being a victim.
I think that the messages towards teens is Enjoy your life but you must be responsible with the decisions and If you want something, get it before it`s gone. Also the movie showed how that sometimes we make mistakes and sometimes we just need to get away from everything and be free.
I think that the best friends of ferry is the hero the movie because. They did not have the opportunity the complete the travel and think too that the villain is the director and is ferry’s ultimate enemy. Because does the impossible for find out. A message important in the movie is that the adults should to be pending more of his soon and more if they are teenagers

ResponderEliminar1. Ferris is not a hero, he only seeks his fun, he abuse to the trust of his parents and friends, even the schoolmates help for Ferris's illness, this are anti-hero actions, the hero is his friend Cameron, not for his weakness when Ferris say to him something, his courage to speak to his father is a hero action.
2. The Villain was always the director, but personally I don't think that he make things 100% wrong, Ferris was very clever and funny, but still he makes bad things, tricking the director. His sister is only confused, she not matter in the film.
3. the movie does not contribute an important message, just have fun occasionally and enjoy the legally bad things, it's a fun movie, the adults be alluded to be more carefully with their children, and the teenagers gives very good instructions to trick their parents.
I am completely agree that Ferris Bueller is the anti-hero, because he is only is living life without any restriction, I say that because he lied to his parents just only for pass a good day with his friend and his girlfriend, and his parents was very deceived. I could not say that his friend Cameron was the hero because he all the movie (is my point of view) was scared and just only at the end could said that he takes the responsibility for destroy his father’s car, and it had happened that for be conscious of they do not say all the true. The movie remebers me a cartoon call Phineas and Ferb because his sister all the time is trying to show to her parents what are doing her brother but she never got it; but in this case at the end of the movie she is his confidence.
ResponderEliminarMore than the villian I think that the school director was trying to make it fall Ferris, because he just only was trying to show to his parents he is lying because they believed that he was very ill. The message I think is negative for teenagers because Ferris was a negative and manipulating leader, with his friend, and his parents and I think that is not a good message but beside I like when at the end he said “Life move pretty fast” so I believe that is better when you enjoy the life and do important things, but not like he. For adults the message is be more brainy and do not believe everything that young says.
I think similar than you guys, Ferris is an anti-hero of the movie, because his actions only benefit him, also his plans are not with bad intention but are egotists actions. So, the Ferri´s hero in the end of the movie is his sister because she helped him to continue with his lies and saved him.
ResponderEliminarObviusly, the Ferri´s villain is the Director Rooney, because he wants to catch Ferri´s lies and he does everything possible to damage him.
The message I think is enjoy the life, but not with bad actions, so accept responsability and consequences of your behaviour, think in your future and appreciate your life.
I think like my colleagues, Ferris Bueller is an anti-hero, his principal characteristic is to manipulate the people around his, he is a particular and funny guy but does not measure the consequences of his actions. He is a very persuasive person because he can change the thinking of others to follow their ideas, this happened with his friend Cameron and his girlfriend Sloane but eventually also with his sister Jeanie.
ResponderEliminarPrincipal Ed Rooney is the hero because without importing the obstacles, he thinks about how to discover the truth. But he have bad luck.
The last enemy Ferris is the same principal Ed Rooney because his sister conceals his actions.
The message for adults is being malicious with excuses that take teens to evade their responsibilities and to pay attention to the alerts.
I agree about Ferris Beuller is an anti-heroe also he is a heroe too. He is a influence for many people and I am not talking about he is not good or he is bad, I am talking about his leadership and his determination to do that he want. Obviously he could use his abilities at good things and here is when his parents have to take it part of. It is true that he had help from everyone on the movie(except his sister and the principal Rooney) but he handled the situation as well as it was possible and he made it happening. Cameron was his own hereo, he had an unstable childhood so it could be the reason why he is and insecure teenager but Who was not insecure in high school?? It was nice to see how a friendship could help you with many things, I appreciate that part of the movie.
ResponderEliminarThe villain and the ultimate enemy is the Principal Rooney. He did not do the rights things because he taked it to hard and get angrier and angrier during the film even when his intention was not revenge.
If you want to do the right you can not caught the easier way, because everything could out off our control and anybody want that. Sometimes we can have a stroke luck but we would not play with this.
Parents must be responsable raising their children, not only saying what is right and what is wrong, because we do not have only black and white, we have too many colours and I think the life is multicolored. A good parent teach you to be conscious and to take decisions property.
However, a teenager is a bomb of hormones so as a father we will have to understand that, work hard and get over. I hope be a good mother
ResponderEliminarFERRIS is my hero!!! Because is a person what takes us out of the mental letardo, alignment or submission of society.
ResponderEliminarEDWARD is an antihero. Because it is equal the bip bip… Coyote Looney tunes, only lives chasing the Road Runner. He doesn’t own life.
The enemy is the actitud or posicion we take front other peolple what take a risk, the fear of making Mistakes and for coward, because incapable of confronting the fellings.
The message is that the world is constant change. Adults must adapt to the thought of millennials, generation x, y, babie boomers, etc. more than de young to the system.
Hello, yes, this world is a continuos movement. Every thing change as the earth is turning round. this movie is an example that education system must take changes as the time pass by. Like ¨´be quick or be dead¨
EliminarGuys, I agree with you when you say that Ferries is an Anti-heroe but I think we have to see the things of another side and he is a clever and awesome man because we could see that when he wanted to do something he did it. And that kind of thinks we need to have because life is not easy and life is of goals, objectives, life is to enjoy it and to make the things funny, interesting.
ResponderEliminarHowever we see an irresponsible behavior and that always produce bad consequences.
I disagree with you guys as regards villain because I consider that the villain of the movie was himself, the director and his sister tried to help him but he did not want to accepted.
Like said Carmen "he is selfish" and he just thought in himself and he does not care other people and as Andrea said "he is dishonest" and he lied many times to his family, friends and they believed to him because they thought that he was honest.
I know that he is younger and he has to live the life, so he has to enjoy it, but he has to learn to live the life rightly.
The message in this movie is clear, father and mother love too much to their sons and daughters that believe in every thing that they say and many times parents have to pay attention to that kind of things.
Teenagers has to enjoy the life to the maximum but at the same time they have to do the things right and they have to study, work, win, lose, etc.
But the word most important here is that teenagers have to "learn" of all that they did.
Thank you.
Ferris is an anti-heroe, becouse he does not care the others persons, he only think in himself. but may the "Ferris mode" change the persons ideas, help to find himself becouse every peoples loves Ferris and -"Ferris ever wins", but we need think... what do I win?. Enjoy the life that little moments when you are smiling.
ResponderEliminarthe heroe in the end is Cameron! and the villian is Ferris acts, the Ferris sister and the director only want "Ferris life"
In the end of this movie i remembered the Deathpool end

1. I think Ferris is an Anti-hero because his actions are move to be benefitial just for him, he just want to have fun and he does not mind if it could get in trouble to other people, he is egocentric and a lier and everyone love him and support him for who he is and everything works well for him. The hero there could be his sister, yet she helped him at the end she shows him that if he does not put serious he could be in trouble.
ResponderEliminar2. The "villain" in the story is the Director he was the enemy because he wanted to punish Ferris because his lie.
3. I think that there are a clear message to adults thas say if you are soft with you child they are going to manipulate you and if you do not put attention at your sons they are going to do everything they want without barriers that put them in line. The teenagers have to learn that if you do not deal with the responsabilities your not going to grow up, you can not pass all your life slipping away of the things you suppose to do
The Ferry, starts the day pretending to be sick in order to avoid going to class, he does things appearing to be a hero but it really is not, he does things only for their benefit by manipulating their parents and friends for a target.
ResponderEliminarThe villain, according Ferris would be the sister of fortune, she hates it so much, also is the director of the school who want to unmask in front of their parents and school. but really the only villain to himself and others Ferris is because it lies, cheats others for their own welfare, he does not want to go to class, do not want to do anything, he just wants to have fun no matter the consequences.
For those who are adults, we know that young people hastily without considering the consequences of their actions, young people should have more support from their parents and a lot of dialogue and trust so that such things are not so often.
For me the Ferry is a fool who does not know you want in your life.
1. Ferris is the anti-hero. Even though he is the central character and a natural leader with skills that could be used to inspire others for good. He is selfish and incapable to recognize that his ideas to escape school affects him and those who follow him in ways. Truth be told he is such a planner and is right about couple things: life is to be enjoyed with it all and he can see the good and the bad in his friends , family and even in himself and takes advantage on it. Yes, he is such a lier and defenetely manipulate those around him and it says a lot about him but also a lot about those the let it happen but nobody can say he is all evil. His sense of humor and the way he can be straight and true asbout himself and the peoople around him help them to see themselves in a more positive way like Cameron and even his sister. That also makes him a hero in my opinion. Some will recognize and try to catch him and others will just have fun and even love him for it. I believe
ResponderEliminar2. Ferris ultimate enemy is probably the director who can also be considered as the villain.
3. Everybody wants to become an adult. Teenagers looks to that and only see benefits ( no school, homework, money in their pockets,a car to drive and not have to be accountable, etc) but what they do not see is that there is a price to be paid and its starts when they are still on school. Although when we become adults we easily forget how to get away with so many responsibilities that make them do not recognize that sometimes we need a break not to act like teenagers but to enjoy life and see life in the small details. Believe or not in lies do not make us more or less intelligent or naive, just make us humans and as humans we make mistakes and can be affected by them one or other way.
